SUSTAINABILITY
Divided Culture Co. are committed to being an environmentally conscious company, and are proactively setting a new standard for environmental impact within small-scale theatre. Beginning to evolvefrom a project by project basis towards a total focused footing with the Theatre Green Book in 2025, the company is considerate of the environment during a year of strong growth.
Working with an Environmental Consultant to establish firm working practices to lessen our environmental impact, and support the company reducing dependencies on unethical and 'quick' business decisions - we've formulated a plan that works for everyone and continue to develop with new learnings throughout the year.
Our Producers and Directors plan with set eco-parameters and problem plan, with environmentally appropriate alternatives for all projects. Our studio location has been fitted out with second-hand equipment, our resources are recycled and often donated. We have been working in a carbon neutral manner since 2022 and have suitably offset the vast majority of our carbon footprint.
Our Environmental Impact Policy is annually updated by the nominated director for policies & procedures and is agreed by trustees and stakeholders.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT POLICY
UPDATED APRIL 2025
Divided Culture Co. is committed to minimising the environmental impact of our business activities. As a relatively young company, we are currently committed to working on a project by project basis alongside our collaborators, to learn how best we can minimise and reduce our impact.
As a minimum on all projects, we will endeavour to:
-
Minimise resource consumption;
-
Minimise energy usage;
-
Recycle waste and reuse where possible;
-
Use sustainable and ethical goods and implement sustainability criteria in our choice of suppliers;
-
Encourage our workforce and audiences to use public transport and other low carbon means of travel;
-
Minimise carbon emissions with a target of achieving Net Zero by 2038 at the latest in line with Zero Carbon Manchester;
-
Track and report on all carbon emissions in order to establish learning and improvement opportunities, using Julie’s Bicycle Creative Green Tools and the Baseline Level of the Theatre Green Book as our starting point.
-
Share knowledge and provide a baseline understanding about climate change and environmental responsibility to all of our workforce and freelancers to ensure a collective effort to minimise our impact, with an aim for core staff to be Carbon Literate.
-
Provide all tour venues and partners with a Green Rider that outlines our recommendations that venues can put into action to reduce the environmental impact of our work.
Throughout 2025 & 2026, we will be developing our understanding of our carbon footprint and other environmental impacts. We anticipate this policy evolving throughout the year to become more detailed and more ambitious.
We are committed to learning fast, to not be afraid of failure, and to share any knowledge we gain with our industry.
